3 MOT's in 3 months
« on: 10 May 2009, 19:31:10 »

First to go was my X Plate 2.2, then mother tunnies W Plate Facelift 3.0 Elite Estate, then father tunnies Y plate 2.2.

Mines done 118.5k, father tunnies 103k, mother tunnies 79k.

They all passed first time, and all of them had no advisories.  :)

All DIY maintained  :)

Father tunnie had his MOT'd at a local Vx dealer, as our local garages are being n00bs. Vx dealer was very surprised to see it passed  ;D

What would you list as the preventive maintenance that is most important?

I now know about 3,000 oil changes and 40,000 mile cambelts. What else should I be doing?

Thx

I would add to that could coolant changes. officially the stuff lasts 5 years. but I change it in all our cars once a year. its a minmal cost, and the 4 pots in particular its important. biggest cause of hg failure is poor/old coolant

As others have said - coolant, breathers etc.

Added to that, brake fluid, servicing the brake calipers and handbrake mechanism, checking aux belt, pollen filters (not that that will affect MOT), waterpump every other cambelt on a v6, plugs regularly.  All helps to keep it running :y

Handbrake aside, all the failures on my cars recently have been the MOT tester being a idiot - things like Air Freshener  >:(.  The Rover failed on headlight aim which was fair I guess.
