Is any form of electronic data safe?  We are at the mercy of such activity now.  The question is, how long will the banks be willing to rectify discrepancies when they occur, with good grace and in a timely manner, without becoming difficult to the point of being obstructive? :-/ :-/

Had  this at my local station a couple of years ago,Natwest didnt flag it but I did when my statement showed that I had withdrawn £150 in Montreal, the last time I was in Montreal was about 7 years previous.
Seem to remember the banks telling us that they introduced chip and pin to stop card fraud. ::)

If the banks in other countries would introduce chip and pin, we would see a lot less of this. Or, your bank could refuse to allow any transaction in another country unless you had specifically told them that you intended to go there.

Online fraud is going to get more difficult. When I log on to my barclays account I have to use a 'pin sentry' machine, which generates an 8 digit number. If I dont use this number to log on, I dont get in.

There is a credit card being trialled which does exactly the same job as pin sentry, it generates a code each time you use it and that has to be entered into the pay point.

Yes, but you're going to use up police resources being escorted from cash machines all the time.

What! :o :o  You still trust the banks with your money?  When you keep all your money under the matress it is always readily available for petrol purchases without police involvement. ::) ::) :D :D ;)

Tina had this problem when she ran a petrol station at Bardon Mill  on the a69, she got so much grief from customers and press, but when it turned out to be a scam she got not less but more grief from the people who payed by debit card , as with a credit card the claim back is easy, but with a debit card they are"reluctant to claim back a transaction as it has been authorised" is the response she got from her own bank?? even though she had the proof, from the policre and the merchant that ran the chip and pin???

Did anyone see the report on the 6pm News tonight regarding Internet theft now increasing due to chip and pin and the new card they have come up with which has a mini computer built in which when making a purchase over the net sends out a 6/7 (not sure) digit number to a screen on the card that you then have to key into the card with the built in buttons to verify the transaction!!!

Sounds and looks good but didn't say how long it will be before commissioned :(.
