Smashed Windowscreen
« on: 14 May 2009, 12:35:25 »

Hi guys,

Made it safely back to blighty  but managed to have a muppet moment and smashed the windscreen.  Its defo not repairable but still fairly legal right now. I have to put the car through the MOT soon and will need to get the windscreen replaced.

I know there have been a few nightmares with windscreen replacements but I cant remember who was good and who was downright shoddy...

Experiences people......?   ::) ::)

You have to spill the beans now.... how did you manage it?

I think it was RAC who were particularly bad (in MDTM's experience?) but no experience of others.

Just noticed a rather great crack has appeared in my screen,and my year old drop links are shagged,due to all those potholes which appeared after the snow a couple of months ago. >:( >:( >:(

Autoglass are usually very good in my experience, and I am pleased to say my insurance policy specifies I use only them. 8-) 8-)

The horror stories about the RAC are far too many!! :o :o

Just had a company replace mine called southern windowscreens , local to me in reading and done the screen for £160 which i thought was good. very good job too. dont know if they do anywhere else other than the southern area though.

 :-[ :-[cheers, i just wasnt sure who was the really bad one.  Now i know.... :y

How did i do it?  Well i was lugging the dinghy back on the roof. Managed to get it on no probs, lashed down a beauty too.  30 mins into the 8 hour drive to dunkirque and the mast step, a large piece of metal, i thought was bolted to the boat floor fell down and scared the sh!te out of me.  Needless to say it was not my finest hour.....
