Thumbs up to ETB Tyres
« on: 18 May 2009, 17:38:54 »

Firstly, don't shoot me - I know there is no substitute for full geometry on the Omega. However, I needed mine looking at pretty quickly, (On a saturday afternoon) - needed somewhere local,  and I was extremely impressed with their service.

I had changed the wishbones and other components on the Omega, and afterwards, the steering wheel was not central and the car was tramlining something rotton. Handling like a pig.

Firstly, before I get onto the work they did - it was a positive experience because

1) I noted the care they took with the car. Wiping off any marks on anything they may touch - covering the seats, so on.

2) The time they took to talk to me - listen to the work I'd recently done, and the alignment issues I was having as a result. I got the impression I'd get a good service when he said "The track rods are usually a pain on these - and inside tyre wear is usually camber on the Omegas".

Anyway - long story short, they did what they consider to be "full alignment". Again - I know it won't match WIM's custom spec by any means (I don't know much about it) - however - they first aligned the rears, and then aligned the fronts to match.

It took them a long time - main reason, everything was seized tight. They meticulously wire brushed, plus gassed, and applied some heat, and gently worked each adjuster loose in a very calm way. I saw them adjust the camber - and they also greased adjusters all up for next time. Oh - and made me a cuppa while I waited.

Bottom line is - regardless of how they won't match WIM - when I came out of there it was like driving a transformed car. Steering wheel dead straight, no more wandering, tram lining - steering much more positive and holds a lot better on corners.

As said - I don't know what they might not have done - Considering I got change out of £40, I was impressed with the results, and the fact they couldn't do enough for me, I was not complaining - and thought the service was value for money, personally.  :y

4 wheel camber and tracking set up is a Full Geometric. There's nothing else to it.  Under £40 is cheap.

I'm having mine re-done here at 3pm on wednesday: http://www.melvynevansmotorsport.co.uk/Services.html

They did a cracking job on my lowered Elite. £35 for the 1st hour and £25 for each additional hour.
Only reason I've gone locally recently is that my CD is standard and it's an hours drive each way to Melvyn's.
Not 100% happy with the last set up I had locally, and they charged £125, so they can lick my left one if they think I'm being fleeced again.

Most places would tell you to come back when you've freed them up.  >:(
