What would you do ? (advice please) ....
« on: 18 May 2009, 18:24:40 »

Here's the thing .... I am seriously considering leaving the land of the Omega, selling GNU and returning to a product of the Land of the Rising Sun.  Can't offer her on here though as you all know about all of her past probs and foibles  ::)

Anyway, she was bought in a bad way but, after an engine and gearbox transplant, is running as sweet as a nut on petrol. The old single point LPG system was taken out and a sequential popped in, in its place. All in all now a lovely car with absolutely no rust, save for a little bubbling around the LPG filler cap.

All it needs now (hopefully) is to be mapped and possibly certified.

Now ... do I try to sell her as is, without a working LPG system, spend more time and money sorting the LPG which might or might not work and which will be uncertificated, or rip out the gas and sell her as petrol ( despite being registered as petrol / gas)?

Because of potential insurance issues with the lack of certification I am tempted to just rip it out --- but that may be a knee jerk reaction!

What would you do ?

Jury is out on that one. Some say it's OK, some say it isn't  :-/

I did think of just trying to claim ignorance -- but ins companies will use whatever they can not to pay out if it did have a prang

If you decide to sell, do it as it is. Lets face it, you're not going to get a fortune for it, and to spend more money would be madness.
Whenever I decide that a car is going, I take the first offer that comes near to what I want and it's goodbye, move on.

Dont torment yourself (and us ;D) for months, JUST DO IT!

been closely watching and knowing car traders for a long time I learned one rule..

patience..

they dont spend serious money for their cars..

repair only visible faults mechanical or other ..

and they wait for the correct customer who will pay their expected profit  ..or else they die but dont sell.. :-/

I think you probably do need a lpga certicate for it.
I seem to remember when i looked at getting my 2.2 registered as dual fuel on the V5, one of the things you had to take to the DVLA office was the certificate.
However you could write to the DVLA telling them the LPG system has been removed and can they issue a V5 stating just Petrol. Dont see why they would have a problem with that.

So, on the assumption that DVLA require a certificate to register as dual fuel, I could claim that there was one, once, but has been lost  ::)
Insurers aren't to know it's not the exact same system !

Still have the basic quandry on how to sell it though  :-/

No certificate = no registration....they don't give benefit of the doubt for anything any more.

Now you are opening yourself up for a potential world of hurt in this day & age.

"Where there is blame there is a claim" is well & truly upon is, just be truthful (as truthful as you need to be) and you cannot suffer any comeback.

Killer ... it's already registered as dual fuel -- so there must have been one once, which is supported by your assertion that they don't give the benefit of the doubt  ;)

Plan A is still to rip it out though !!!!
