.......Is particularly rude to female members, most of whom do NOT swear like troopers, and anyway most men don't swear in mixed company.......

It's not often I mask a swear word, when I do it's normally with regards to a problem on one (namely the gold 2.2) of my cars. I'll try and remind myself not to do it and find a more colourful replacement word :y

Irony (from the Ancient Greek [ch949][ch7984][ch961][ch969][ch957][ch949][ch943][ch945] eir[ch333]neía, meaning hypocrisy, deception, or feigned ignorance).

Still not funny.

I have noticed more swearing of late, and some of it could be fairly offensive, not to me particularly - but for others maybe. As has been mentioned an expletive is an expletive, so why not just put ***** or find another way of expressing what you need to say.

People can say bloody or crap all day long as far as I am concerned - I think people would realise which are the more offensive words being used.

A bit of anger management needed in 1 or 2 cases ? ;)

I think this is a very valid point too.

I do it quite a lot to be honest, but I swear a hell of a lot in real life so nothing is different.

I agree with Entwood and all others who have commented on the unnecessary personally abusive nature in some threads with swearing or not!:y

However, as a women I appreciate I am on a male orientated forum, and in any male 'space' be it in the pub, workplace, or with friends, swearing can be used to express simple anger or emotions on the subject in hand.  When say discussing dissatisfaction with a distant collective group, especially when it causes frustration, then men can often use unsavoury words to describe that group who are well away from the OOF.  i.e. The Government.  On that subject I have been frequently known to utter the word 'bastards', unmasked you note, and then explain why.  That in my book is good anglo-saxon expressive humour, and the men around me in the past would have uttered far worse!! ::) ::)

No, what I personally do not accept is abuse personally aimed directly at other members, usually just because they do not agree with them, whilst using gratuitous language for effect! This I am offended by, and will never accept.  To me that just reflects a lack of vocabulary and inteligence, coupled with ignorance of other peoples feelings.  This is what should stop immediately in my book! >:( >:(

As for your avatar STMO, I recognised some time ago that your 'character' or 'image' on the oof, but no doubt quite the reverse in real life, is one of being the hard, uncaring, unemotional alpha male.  The avatar is just an extension of the 'act'.  But, yes although I try had not to read it and just treat it as part of the rich fabric of life on the OOF (or should that be Mars?!!), I DO find it unecessary and abusive.  So STMO, I KNOW you are actually a good guy, so please how about toning it down? ::) ::) ;) ;)
