In standard retail transactions, that do not involve the noting of customer details, there is no system whereby the trader can trace the details of the owner of the credit / debit card. Only the banks / credit card companies possess that information and will not release them to a retailer. ;) ;)
Try buying a telly :o

Customer details are only taken to send on to TV Licensing as retailers who sell television receiving and recording equipment are required to do by law. ;) ;)

Question: If terestrial TV is no longer going to be a point of receiving, and the only way is to receive on a 'Freeview' box, how come where still paying for a TV licence these days !!.
More highway robbery me thinks  :-/

Easy, with card they know who has the phone!!
with cash its anonymous and untraceable so they "encourage" you to use the card so they can trace you :y

Lizzie its nothing to do with the retailers!!! do you really think the government dont know your bank details?
they know exact;y what you spend and recieve, why do you think they can seize illegal money from drugs etc

That normally happens AFTER you are convicted of a criminal offence where large (> £10,000) sums of money are involved, and ONLY if you can't explain where the money came from in the first place.
