Need a TV as I decided to actually go ahead with Sky HD.

Would prefer a branded raher than a non discript make.

Need at least 1 Scart + HDMI

Dont mind 32" to start with as it will end up in my bedroom or upto 42" as it will stay in the living room.

Must be Black. Budget of £300 to 400 but dont mind up to £500

Pedestal stand is fine and may well get wall maonted in time.

May be doing quite a bit of gaming on it once I a 360 as well.  (Allreay have a PS2 and XBox, would be nice to add  aPC for gaming, Wii may be a consideratin and still have the ols dreamcast)

Any recomendations wouls be greatly appreciated.

TIA :y

Not going too silly on this one as I recon I will be going for the likes of the Samsung LED ultra slim once realiabily is proven and prices drop by at least 50% of what they are now.

My local tesco has 42" plasmas on for £399.99

Plasma will never display true balck in real use either as the phosphor will remian 'lit' for upto 30 seconds after a strike

And hence why an ST LCD setup will match a plasma balck setup.

Thank you  :y

Yes, as others have said, LCD caught up with and surpassed Plasma some years back now. Plasma is pretty much dead from R&D, LCD is still being aggressively developed.

Plasma does have a single advantage over LCD - a glass front, which is useful under certain circumstances (and disadvantage as a normal living room environment)

42" and over - get a plasma - faster response time, no picture trails or lag (watch football on an LCD - i don't care what it costs - and see what lag looks like - i couldn't live with that - it annoys me on other peoples tv's too)

F*ck LCD
F*ck Plasma

LED is the way forward, and the time is just about now for buying.

LCD has caught up with plasma and you can't really tell a differnence nower days, black gets worse over time on a plasma. I much much prefer LCD.
Behave yourself.

An LCD set will NEVER display true black no matter what, because it needs a backlight.

For the skinflints...

Up to 42"....LCD
Over 42"....Plasma

For those who take home entertainment seriously.....LCD all the way.

I fancy the Samsung 46" LCD but at £1400 it is a bit OTT for my 1st flat screen, The one I am after will be to enjoy the HD on for a while  and will get relegated to the bedroom for gaming after a while, so hence the £500 limit on the purchace.

Saying that, if I had the time to do the homework then things may well have been different.  But at the moment I think LED prices are way too high, so that may be next years birthday pressie to mysekf.  ::)
