Using a paint package, simply resize.  See the sticky post at top of newbie section about photo hosting, that describes resizing, though obviously for avatar, you need to resize to 110 x110 max

I've had to remove it from your profile until you can resize to meet the forumguidelines :y

If you store your pix on Photo Bucket for instance, you can resize them on there, it's simples :)
