Any forum members in Manchester?
« on: 13 June 2009, 21:35:01 »

I might be buying 3.0 elite in Manchester soon and I was thinking that maybe someone could have a look at it before I put cash on the table. I have never had omega before and I just don't know where to look to spot incoming problems.
I will have to take a train (from London) and I don't know anyone who could help me up there. I am thinking about paying for eventual help ::) :)

Unfortunately I can go to Manchester only at the weekend.

Have a look at this  260427298039

It is on bay for the second time, last time it was  260411812154
Seller wants to get around 2000 (at least this is what he told me after last unsuccessful auction). I don't personally think that he will get this sort of money. Because this is exactly the car I am after, I would offer him 1900 but I must be sure that everything is OK with the car (and LPG system). So if anyone would be able to have a look at this good looking elite before I spend all day travelling to Manchester it would be great. I am asking for this favour only if you live next door and only if it is not too much hassle for you.

Baguley is about 25 minutes from my house and I am willing to go and have a look, however, Daz (Loo-Knee) and Pete (Elite Pete) have a lot more experience than I do and would be able to appraise the car more thoroughly.

If they can help I would suggest you take them up on their offer.  :y

Just bought my 2000 MV6, and done every conceivable job on the engine - for well, well under half the price of this one.

In fairness, my labour is free to me so no big deal - but, you wouldn't catch me paying £2k for a 2000 Omega.

ESPECIALLY an LPG one - I've not seen a half decent dealer install yet - Aside of Entwoods.

It's all down to personal preference - I've stated mine - yours may be different - it just depends what it's worth to YOU  :y

just hadover 1000 pounds spent on engine, new head gaskets new rocker gaskets new valves cambelt tensioner ,and roller water pump coil pack and service on engine and lpg

Any reciepts for the work?

What was the reason for needing so much work?

If the cambelt failed, and damaged valves were replaced, what condition are the valve guides in?

Does the LPG carry a certificate?

What did the LPG service comprise of - was the system tuned (or at least, checked) at the same time and where is the bill?

I would have many questions before parting with a wedge on this one....

Just to be a really fussy so-so - the multivalve on that LPG tank doesn't look at an ideal angle! ( should be around 35 degrees.... IIRC)

Thanks everyone for your help. I agree that 2000 is a bit much but I am willing to put this sort of money only if the car is close to perfect. LPG is a must (but only if it works properly). I am already amazed by the questions you suggested. I would never ask questions like this and that's exactly why I need help from more experienced omega owners.

Scottie thanks for your help offer. I am sure That you are able to say much more about any omega than I do. So if it is not a problem it would be great if you could have a look at her and share your opinion.

I will go and have a look as soon as I can. I must warn that I am not the greatest DIY mechanic and will only be able to comment on the general condition not the mechanical condition of the car.

I don't want you to think that what I say is a mechanical appraisal in any way. Also I don't know the first thing about LPG installs. :-/

That's great Scottie. Can't wait to see what you will say about the car and the seller. It is always good not only to see the car but also to meet the owner, talk to him and get some idea if you are talking to honest seller or someone trying to sell you piece of crap.

Talking about the price... I was hoping that I will buy decent 3.0 elite (FL) for about 1000 and then put LPG in for another 1000. But it turns out that it is difficult to find nice one for 1000 and LPG conversion will probably cost more than 1000 that is why I just want to get one which is already converted and safe myself a lot of hassle. That is the reason why I am willing to pay up to 2000. Toes it make any sense? What do you think? (any advice really appreciated  :) )
