How's this for dumb?

Lord Hunt is Minister of State for the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/5664119/A-pipedream-of-six-turbines-a-day-until-2020.html

"...he [Lord Hunt] said that by 2020 he hopes to see thousands more wind turbines round Britain's coasts, capable of producing '25 gigawatts (GW)" of electricity, enough to meet "more than a quarter of the UK's electricity needs".

1. "The actual output from 25GW of turbine capacity would only average out at 7.5GW. Since Britain's peak demand is 56GW, Lord Hunt's turbines would meet barely a seventh of our needs, just over half what he claims."

2. "To build the 10,000 turbines that would be required by 2020 would mean installing more than two of these 2,000-ton monsters, the size of Blackpool Tower, every day for the next 11 years."

3. "..the bill we would all have to pay for Lord Hunt's dream would be £77 billion, plus the £15 billion that he did admit would be needed to pay for cabling to connect his windmills to the grid. For the same £92 billion we could build 34 nuclear power stations, enough to meet all Britain's needs, at a seventh of the cost for each unit of electricity."

Thanks to the DT and Christopher Booker for pointing out that we have a complete buffoon in a ministerial position - still at least he matches the others.  >:(

I wonder if these ministers have any direct or indirect interests in the wind turbine manufacturers and constructors  ::) ::)

Is this technology the be and end all?

The next logical step is to examine how we use energy and how we can be billed for what is deemed to be excess use.

Perhaps the dear Leader should be more concerned about the welfare of his own people and how much this move is likely to cost us.

Always trying to be a player on the international stage -what about us?

It's possible, but a more likely scenario is that they decide (occasionally) to sing a song that they think the public wants to hear (in this case, the "green" song).

Gordon Brown has just done the same by introducing a "new" (I use that term loosely) law that makes it an offence to "knowingly submit a false expenses claim"

This new law isn't worth s*it in reality, for at least 2 reasons...

1. The key word is "knowingly"....and all those MP's caught so far have pleaded ignorance (although that's not meant to be a valid defence in law).

2. We already have god knows how many laws in place which would easily cover the offences that have already been comitted, this new law is nothing more than a bit of lip service to make the public think the government plays with a straight bat.
