The Green police are coming
« on: 06 July 2009, 21:05:40 »

The boys in green are coming as the Environment Agency sets up a squad to police companies generating excessive CO2 emissions.

The agency is creating a unit of about 50 auditors and inspectors, complete with warrant cards and the power to search company premises to enforce the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC), which comes into effect next year.

What a wizard idea. Let's completely screw what's left of British industry.

Let's imagine for a moment that "climate change" had some concrete scientific evidence behind it. Mankind has been chucking out CO2 like mad since the industrial revolution. Is now really the right time to start clobbering industry, when it's already on its' knees?

From the green viewpoint, I guess it is. If they go bust they won't "pollute" any more. Be a real own goal if the sandal factory has to close though. ;)

I fear certain political factions have forgotten the finite (and perhaps unpleasant) fact that:

"Life is 100% fatal; none of us get out of it alive!"

Life is for living....things 'man' does to the planet can be wonderful and horrific in equal measure; I feel that natural law will find equilibrium (with or without future generations of humanity).
...and (much to their arrogant chagrin) 'come-day-go-day' politicians can make absolutely no effective interdiction in the fate of humanity...what will be will be! ;)

It`s a pity we have to suffer 'death by a thousand petty laws' in the meantime! ::)

I have an image in my head of someone "badging out" with one of these warrant cards - "STOP - GREEN POLICE" ;D

In all seriousness - I sincerely hope that their "warrant cards" will not give them any more powers, than the right of entry to do their job

(and in my personal opinion, even that is too much).

Lots of people you'd never imagine have powers of entry ....don't get a natty green jacket though! Probably look like an invasion of leprechauns  ::)

i suppose these yoghurt knitters will be government backed, just like the scientists who came up with this Co2 theory [aka crap], perhaps they should start in parliament as the bullsh1t the politicians talk must give off plenty of Co2 >:(

Yes, that CO2 stuff is certainly making the world boil.

Incidentally the anomaly, which is zero, shows that compared to the average of last 30 years (or thereabouts) of the 20th century, the world's temperature is.....unchanged. Where's that global warming, then?

ah you see nick when they found out they were looking stupid due to it NOT getting hotter, one of their spin doctors [aka bullshit artists] changed the name to climate change so the con could continue,  yet the yoghurt knitters & lentil munchers havent noticed this as they are too wrapped up in being anti car etc & dont even find time to wash ;)

Co2 is a PRODUCT of temperature change NOT a cause.

Now hang on a min, I agree that a large amount of all this green stuff is total crap but........ If we produce CO2, the main thing that absorbs it is Trees, and if we keep destroying them to make "use once then burn"  wood, it ain't goin' to keep working for long. Next I feel its not CO2 but C that is a major problem. I got asthma about  15years ago, while living in Leicester. However since moving up to yorkshire it has got better. A possible reason is leicestershire is in a hollow, so air polution tends to stay there, whereas up in yorkshire we are higher, so wind blows any crap away, so less agrovation to lungs etc. So air polution is a problem. You might not see it, but its there, and getting worse.

There is a limit as to much crap we can keep pumping into the environment, before it looses its ability to correct. They do say that there a lot of frozen methane under the pole, once that starts to melt, the control mechanism that is keeping balance will flip, and we will not be able to reverse the change, so the atmosphere will be changed for good.

There is a limit as to much crap and poison we can keep dumping onto the Earth, before She gives up.

It's actually the oceans that absorb the most CO2. Of course, vegetation also absorbs CO2, but it promotes green growth. Deforestation is thankfully slowing, though clearly we need to remain very concerned about it.

CO2 itself will not cause your asthma, as you say. The pollution you talk of comes from various particulates and, in this respect, diesels are FAR worse than petrol engines.

However, I don't agree that air pollution is necessarily getting that much worse. On what basis do you claim that? Prior to the Clean Air Act, chimney smoke caused smogs (I recall having to go to school with a handkerchief over my mouth). There is always room for improvement, of course, but CO2 is not a pollutant. Incidentally, I always find it annoying when the media use pictures of cooling towers to show pollution, when the only thing coming out is water vapour.  ::)

"They do say that there a lot of frozen methane under the pole, once that starts to melt, the control mechanism that is keeping balance will flip."
The poles have seen much less ice than now on a number of occasions in the past - and the Earth has not fried. And remember, the average temperature at the poles is in the minus 30 to -40 degree region. Even with a global rise in temperature of 2 degrees it would only make it get to the -28 to -38 region, if you catch my drift.

Besides which, I feel we should perhaps be more concerned about cooling, not warming.  :-/
