Has anyone done an advanced rider training course? Did it have any affect on your insurance.

Place where i passed offers advanced courses at £250 over 2 days, however my insurance company said it would not have any affect.

It 'may' help reduce my costs by renew time, but they could not confirm it.

Did my Rospa driving when I were 18, didn't make any difference - but try calling Adrian Flux, they do ask about driving qualifications.

 Oh, and they're always lovely, and some of the staff can be seen on the "Flux babes" site...

There are companies that advertise reductions for recognised courses.  Apparently BikeSafe is NOT recognised.

One firm I contacted advertised discounts for MEMBERS of the IAM.  I am one.  When they asked when I passed my IAM bike test, I told them I hadn't.  Long story short: they mean't holders of IAM bike test passes. I have car IAM test pass.

For many years I used the IAM's designated insurance company for cars and you can get the same discount just by asking for it so I dropped them when they went incompetent.

So.  Still not answered your question but if I were you I wouldn't bother.

If you still want to, look at the website of IAM or ROSPA or why.  They should point you to compliant insurers.

99.9% of car and bike insurance companies give discounts of some description or another for holders of Police Advanced Driving/Riding Certificates.  Adrian Flux certainly does...

I manage discount on both counts - achieved class one car and class one bike - but it would mean a complete change of career for yourself, Tunnie!

Sod the discount, just do the training and have less chance of making a claim. I did the IAM with Durham police a few years ago, it was excellent, the IAM observer charged £5 a session for her petrol, the test was about £40 IIRC, will obviously have gone up now. Check with the local bike cops, they may run a course.
Had no effect on my insurance, the companies who give discount tend to be a bit dearer than others so you are back to square one. I always dealt with Hastings, good quote, good service.
