Nice car - as to performance - interesting cams make it faster.

I personally like the 2.2 hatch version - now that was quick!
What?
Thats not a Hillman Avenger Tiger, its a Lotus Sunbeam :y

Same mate who had  the tiger had a couple of other interesting cars one of which was a 1750 holbay Hunter, that was a really nice motor
Was'nt it 1725? Sorry to be pedantic. :y

May well of been.  But could have been bored out.

I was easily impressed as a teenager when I went out in it.

he was a bugger for modifying, I know this had twin 40's on it so I dont even know if they were standard.

And what do you think a Sunbeam is?

The Sunbeam Ti is basically a hatch Avenger Tiger

A Sunbeam is an Avenger with AFAIR 3" or 9" removed in wheel base, mechanically identical, interiors used same parts, some body panel interchangability.

My Sunbeam had many Avenger parts on it from the scrap yard - early 1500 close ratio box, radiator was Avenger.

Only mechanical differences apart from no 2.2 saloon and no 1.0 Avenger is that the prop shaft is shorter on the hatch.

The 1725 was not a bad lump, but the later design Avenger lump was more tunable as it was a very short stroke design. I have seen an Avenger 1600 which put out over 200bhp at the rear wheels (on nitrous), a 1600cc circuit racing Sunbeam with 150 at the wheels, and with the 2.2 a hill climb Sunbeam with around 300bhp at lowish RPM after raiding an Esprit for its turbo and intercooler.

My old one was about 115 at the crank but was RRed at 90 at the rear wheels - and due to finances I had old Avenger GT Stromberg carbs on it.

Not of the Hillman variety it is not.
The Sunbeam is not a shortened Avenger,  They came about when Hillman became Chrysler and took over Simca.  They were all much the same inside and out, Alpine (Simca)  1301, 1501, Avenger, Sunbeam and Rancho all shared the interior common across the range.

Some of you are getting mixed up here.
The Talbot Sunbeam was the shortened 3 dr hatchback RWD version of the Avenger from1.0 up to the 2.2 Lotus.
The Simca variants were Talbot Horizons/ Alpines/ Solaras FWD awfull rattly buckets of shite that no manufacturer wanted to own up to hence so many names!!! But lets not confuse the two please. ::)

How do you get attacked by a Sunbeam owner?

"Why do you own a Horizon?"
