Surtees son killed

It has just been announced on our local BBC news for the South East that the son of John Surtees, F1 motoring legend, has been killed at Brands Hatch after being hit by a wheel during a race :o :o :o :'( :'( :'(

Hell fire! that is a real tragedy,  respects go to the surtees family at this sad time. :( :(

Totally freak accident too.....hit by the detached wheel of another car whilst he was in a race........

On youtube if anyone wanted to see exactly what happened, i wont link to it.

Didnt look that bad initially, until the car comes to rest and you see his foot is still hard on the throttle.......

Rip Henry. Sad loss.

Seem to remember talk of enclosed cockpits at the last bought of safety upgrades for open wheeled cars. Maybe they will bring it in now?

I'm very sad for the Surtees family.  This must have been a freak accident.

I can't see enclosed cockpits being a suitable reaction.  This fits more with the F1 idea of tie-wires on the wheel hubs to keep them with the wreckage.  Even that's been known to fail though. :(
