Awe and Wonderment.....
« on: 18 July 2009, 18:26:55 »

Yes, I know it`s an old image: but well worth clicking the 'larger' link and magnifying with + to look at detail.

It`s Buzz Aldrin next to the LM (Apollo 11)......I watched; slack-jawed then.....and `still in awed-wonder now.

I showed this and many new images of the lunar landing sites taken recently by the LRO http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/multimedia/lroimages/apollosites.html to my nephews, their response: "yeh, and....?!?!"

There is clearly not much 'wonder' left! :'(

I read somewhere that a modern mobile phone has more computer memory than the computer that took them to the moon! an incredible achievement to get to there !

Bloody hell, yes.  Even the old early 1980s home micros (Spectrums, BBCs, Commodores etc) were 100s of times more powerful.

It just shows how accurate the models made on Blue Peter are.  ::)

Going by that photo, a few sheets of tin foil in different colours, some dark grey canvass, several somewhat creased sections of thin sheet metal and a couple of funnels sprayed silver is all that is required for a lunar landing.
Methinks NASA should have let the 40 anniversary slide by as quietly as possible.
The credibility is wearing thinner and thinner.

Something I wondered for years.  Apparently on the leg of the LEM - seems further away due to focal length
