Mobile phone claim at LLOYDS tsb
« on: 24 July 2009, 14:16:29 »

I have a problem with my mobile phones claim. After 2 years of having silver account with Lloyds, I wanted to make a claim. Both mobiles I have were in a bag that was dropped into  seawater. I’ve managed to take sim cards out but think that mobiles are dead.
Nice lady from premium accounts told me that I have to provide a proof of purchase, mobiles and pay £30 for each claim. Everything’s okay, but this is nokia n80, purchased 3 years ago (who keeps all documents for 3 years) and is worth around £30 now. I have thrown both mobiles to bin, thus now I would have to report it to Police and my mobile provider (I am on PAYG for 2 years) and bring all documents to Lloyds.
I have asked her what am I going to get, and was told that they try to fix it and if not, I’ll get a mobile with same specs. She could not tell me what mobiles they have as N80 replacement and I am now concerned if this  whole thing is worth it, as I can get some Samsung (worth £50)  for £30 and 2-3 days of holiday I have to spend doing all paperwork.
Do you know what mobiles they usually give for old ones like N80? If I have to go through that, I can always ask somebody to fix both mobiles and pay less than £30 (both are in the bin but I’m sure I can get them out).

I am quite sure about one thing though – after this and my friends “AA” recovery claim from his bank (beyond belief – private van could not get to underground carpark and left him in dodgy garage) and this I will go back to standard account as all “extras” are “you get extra” when you sign up, but become “you pay extra” when you claim....

So getting both repaired seems like best option then ;)

You won't be getting N97 or Crapple gayPhone if that is what you were hoping

Also, if you can get them repaired, so can Lloyds, which may be what they do

No, I don’t want any of them (well I want but not for a N80 insurance claim ;) ) , as this would not be fair, but I don’t think it's fair to pay £30 with all this hassle and get a £30 phone back.
I was thinking about N81, N95 or something similar - Nokia + symbian, worth more than £30.
I know that these rules are to protect from false claims (some would claim new mobile every year), but on the other hand people who cheat will buy £500 latest gadget mobile, claim that it was stolen, change IMEI number and flog it on E-bay. I only claim for a £30 mobile....

As per repair - maybe you're right and I should have been on standard account and have save £8/month * 24 months for my mobile repairs or new mobile. I was just naive to think that if anything will happened to a 3yr old mobile, it will not be worth to play with it and will get something bit more decent (nothing special) without this hassle. I could just say that it was lost or stolen but I don’t want to lie to get a replacement mobile.

Banks premium services are fraud to me - for 2 years I have not received any T&C for any cover I have with them! I asked about it in Basingstoke branch and was given a advertisement booklet. I am quite sure that if anything would happened during my holiday, I would not get any help from then...so get lost, I don’t want to pay for “premiums”
My friend, that claimed that his car was broken was told that he's covered by a "full cover" - and was dropped to a garage, they couldn’t fix it so he had to pay extra to get to Vauxhall!!
