Just out of curiosity ...... when my daughter is home from uni she brings her laptop home with her and connects wirelessly to the internet via our Orange Livebox. Every now & then it won't connect, but if we go to the Inventel Livebox config page & change the channel number (usually by 1) in the security section, she'll be up & running!
Question .... why does she loose the connection & why does keep changing a channel every now & then work!

changing the channel cause the router to soft reset. you would resolve the issue by restarting the router.
also try changing the mtu to 1450 if you can on the router the default of 1500 causes drop out problems

On my router its under WAN Setup

either you cant save the setup or it cant keep the saved setup config..

It generally does it occasionally, but can fail to connect the lappy a couple of time in fairly quick succession.

How? Surely you need the 26 digit code from the modem ....  :-/ or am I being naive?  :-?

no, on the 11 (UK) channels (frequencies).  only 1,6 and 11 or non overlapiing

I did ask for answers to be in simplistic terms!

I've a choice of 13 channels and have usually been using the higher end .... as suggested by Orange help line.

My wireless access point does this. At one point it was so bad it would last hrs between dropping off.

It got the better of me one day when I chucked it as hard as I could at the floor a few times (which isn't like me ) and then chucked it in the bin... Only to pull it out again 20 mins later and stick it all back together with tape! Since then the dropouts have only been every few weeks

Don’t know if this is a proven way of fixing them though yet! 

Anyway,
Best thing to do is speak to Orange, see if you can get them to send you another router.

in my very limited experience, faulty router. We have had 4 from 3 different providers. All much the same symptoms, though never bothered buggering about with settings, not a clue with all that.

Oh God, dont remind me. Hours on hold, to find your in a dead end with no way out and all the operators have Christian names not their real names. Some even forget their first Christian name and give you second one. Hope things have improved since we where with them. Had to ring the mobile line in the end to get some sense out of somebody/close the account. Unbelievable, totally. Very best of luck.
