Whats going on (car alarms)
« on: 30 July 2009, 22:24:14 »

Had my alarm go off 7 times in 2 hours today for no reason. I dont have a powersounder ( at least its not under the skuttle ) there is a horn there were it goes though. it would only go off if I locked the car with the fob, but was ok when I locked it with the key.
I have also heard that in the past week or so a lot of people have had the same problem with there cars, different makes and models,
have you had a similar problem?
is it the temperature or ground movement?
it was not windy, well not enough to set an alarm off.

( This is not a how to fix it thred I'm just thinking out laud so to say )

When my rear silencer exploded on my GLS I liked listenening to the exhaust notre at different levels (As you do.  ::) )

Any way when I drop my ex off after a visit I found out that at a certain speed (Noise level)  I set off someones car alarm.  Not sure if Miggy can be affected like this, but there are a lot of boy racers rounds with loud exhausts.  just a thought and a big shot in the dark.

Where I used to live as well, I found out I could set off the Pubs alarm with a laser pen.  Annother shot in the dark as well for a car alarm going off.  But hey the kids are on holiday and getting bored. :-/

what was weather like? Intermittent bright sunshine? Could well be bonnet switch. Heat expands the bonnet, bend the bracket up or tape down or dis connect the switch.

never thought of that,

Also do you have a sunroof or a window slightly open.  Mine went off a few times a while back in the hotweather with the sunroof tilted.  I reckon a fly was setting it off, shut the roof, problem solved. :y

That could explain my car, all windows were closed, sunroof too.
But whats with the other cars?

Where I live there was three coal mines so it might be ground movement, but we never felt anything.

It could be someone setting them off deliberately in the hope that the owners will disable the alarms - then they nick them!

Also, loud low frequencies can trigger them.

There’s a minibus taxi that lives down our street. The alarm on it is far to sensitive to the point that every other time I drive past in the Omega, I set it off ::)

Mines not that loud really neither, as its now back to a standard system(ish)... the back box has very little left inside it! ;D

My mates vec sets it off EVERY time he passes it ;D

mine threw most of the stuffing out, then i reckon it blocked as I lost 95% of the power when accelerating.  Pushed it hard on kickdown to suss out what the problem was, it cleared when the back box exploded and split wide open.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D the day after it started setting the alarm on on that car.     ;D ;D ;D ;D

I pulled the back box off the car, and have smashed up as much of the remaining rusty baffles as I could, and then ripped 90% of its contents out!  ;)

Having said that, there was a bit of 'horse hair' (as my mum calls it) hanging out the back yesterday  ;D

Once had a long trail of that following me the road one day.  Wondered why people were flashing me. ;D ;D
