Please tell ... according to reports the plane didn't have a name , it was always refered to by it's wing number ... or do you mean what type of plane????

As I stated before answering your post:

"To me, after seeing him (trying to) 'perform' in recent times, he has and I would sooner now remember him as he was to us youngsters as the maestro of radical music and thought.  That was the magic then, but now, no more  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

As for the name of the plane...............this is the clue:

Sorry to disappoint folks .. but the plane wasn't called Miss American Pie ... this is an urban myth brought on by the Don McLean song ... it was only identified by it's wing number, N3794N ...
heres an intresting link ....http://www.fiftiesweb.com/crash.htm

Well Well!
I have just been digging around on the net & it seems you are quite correct, it is a myth & that the plane had no "Nickname". :-[ :-[ :-[

Usually ask that question to audiences when we do Buddy Holly songs with the band :-[ :-[

Normally get at least one or two who think the answer is "American Pie" ;D ;D ;D

Will have to check that  my motor is really a Omega Elite - or maybe it is a myth as well! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

But in a weird symbolic way that plane might as well been called American Pie!  The United States of America was almost 60% through it's 'American Century', and when that plane went down with certainly one, if not three, artists who represented the American dream, that dream for America started to turn sour.  A string of political and military events, from Cuba, JFK's assassination, the escalation of the Vietnam War, and the disgrace of Richard Nixon all started a decline in the perceived and actual  power of the USA, with enemies aplenty amassing against it and spoiling that care free, all is possible and available dream.  At the start of the new century, beyond the American one, has seen various attacks on American interests, 9/11, a severe US financial crisis, and involvement in further wars that America cannot win.

Yes, when Buddy Holly's plane went down it co-incidentally was the start of a new era for the USA, and metophically speaking Miss American Pie went down with it. :'( :'( :'( ;) ;)
