Thinking of getting rid of the shaguar, but.......
« on: 02 August 2009, 18:07:19 »

...what to replace it with?

I want to reduce my monthly out goings so that I can possibly get on the property ladder, yet I love driving special cars.  The XF is awesome and I bit of a head turner (took some getting used to after the miggy!)

I reckon I will have around 8k in cash once I sell the car and repay the finance.  I bought it for 24.5k and according to Parkers it is worth around 29k.

I still have to be able to use it in all weather, and be able to tow a dinghy trailer.  Soft-top would be nice although not essential.

So far the choices are:

MGB
XJ12
TR7 V8 (seen a nice one, but not sure if I can get a towbar for them)
Mini 1.3/cooper

Any other potentials that I haven't thought about?

Big consideration on insurance premiums on 2 of those mentioned.  Cant imagine a TRV8 being an all weather car though.  Didnt think they liked water :-/

How about one of these?

All weather - check
Tow a dinghy - no need as its amphibious
Soft top - bonus
And it's certainly a head turner, especially if you dress up as Rommel  ;D ;D

Not sure that any of your list will tow a dingy ....

MGB - It would fall apart
XJ12 - It would fall apart quicker....
TR7 V8 (seen a nice one, but not sure if I can get a towbar for them) - It would break down
Mini 1.3/cooper - It wouldn't move it let alone stop it

I should have put a tenner at the bookies on someone saying that!  ;D ;D ;D

Well I have been looking at also upgrading the miggy for a facelift, prob the 3.2 MV6 manual if I can find one.  I am getting more and more sold by the idea of having an MGB roadster....  ::) ::) ::) ::)

I would run the Omega, sell the Jag, and put the 30k towards getting a property..

I'm a fine one to talk, as my money management is not great, but if I had the choice of 30k or a nice car - I'd take the 30k  :y

I have had many TR7s the last being a 3.9 V8 and I have never broken down in one. Infact if I could find my last one, I would do my wife in for the insurance money and buy it back :D
