Makes you wonder how it works out the route-the last 2 times i have used mine it took me through the smallest country roads you could find! it did get me there ,but if i'd been in a HGV i would have been in big trouble

TT had a prob....ages ago with updates....not just the 520....every model....they backpedaled and pushed out an earlier update....but it didnt fix the prob on most models.....

Do a search on TT upgrades and you will see how widespread the prob is....

Me thinks that TomTom is trying to put too much technology into them, as well as being SatNav's some of the models allow you to play music on them, and other stuff if I'm not mistaken ?.

Once you get your TomTom's back, maybe a good idea to buy another SD card (same make as supplied with the unit), and copy the original card onto the spare, and then use the copy one in the unit. Then if the downloads go breastup, you can format the copy card, and put the original software back onto the copy card (if that makes sense ?).

Don't know if that'll help you out ?.

Go520 has phone too which is a nice touch mind you with music I think as well, I much prefer my new navman anyday 

I've got a Go520 and it does not have a phone.  Does have bluetooth handsfree though.

I've got a Tomtom and we also use TomTom in our vans at work and all have been very reliable. You speak as you find but i think TomTom are very good

My last tomtom sent me down a road with a 2,4meter bridge, the problem was I was 4,4meters high :-/,
Saying that it could happen to any other sat nav aswell

I am not saying that tom tom are not very good , just that the firmware they are shoving out is flawed and they dont appear to be doing anything about it, they still say that it is your fault as you did not download the updates correctly, then when you speak to them they go through a long winded  procedure which does not cure the fault only to be told '' oh well you had better send it back to us and we will fix it.'' If they were to be honest and up front with their customers  and say they have a problem then they might not get the stick that they are getting. They should  Remember they are not the only gps maker out there and we can always vote with our feet and buy a rivals product.

If you can "brick" a device just by installing official firmware it's always the manufacturer's fault.

Sounds like they need better software quality control.

My 910 got bricked by a firmware update back in January this year.

I really don't know what possessed me to take an official update at the time (I think I smoked too much weed), but it was easily rectified once I went back to the free updates for everything.

Got a 710 never had too much problem with it except when trying to download map upgrades it takes forever and me with a 10meg line (that's another story Virgin).

Your so called "10mbit" line has been capped beyond belief for years (and I'm not just talking about their latest FUP) .
