Sometimes seems like it, doesn't it.  Generally people try to move forward, but there is a hardcore that just want the old troubles to continue -- unfortunately they are the more vociferous and seem to be getting their way!

This is a problem in itself -- the bored kids have learnt the way of violence. Often this will continue long after the reasons for the troubles have been resolved or forgotten. Makes a good excuse, basically.

There was a high element of freedom / defence / political fighters during 'the  troubles', but now surely it can only be bored youth who are looking for a fight?

Obviously I never lived there, but I would hope that all adults who lived through the dark times do not want to return to those days?  With the exception of the Real IRA and maybe some protestant activists, all the old main contagionists have laid down their arms and are now committed to political activity? :-/ :-/ :-/

No doubt Sands, and I am sure there must be some strong holds of resentment and unsettled scores around.  The history of hundreds of years, plus the 30 of 'the troubles' does not go away easily; too many lives were lost for that to happen overnight :'( :'( :'( :'(
