Twas on the telly last week. That wasn't an actual pub, just a set up of what could be. Do you honestly think it will actually happen? ::)

Didn't see it on the telly (I was away!). Could it happen? The way the nanny state is progressing, I believe anything is possible.  :( :(

It sounded as if it would be for places when they sell alcohol at ridiculously low prices.  Not a bad idea.

Last Saturday I was paying £3.95 a pint for Boddingtons.  No-one was likely to get drunk there! ;)

Although, watching the media, you'd be forgiven for thinking that every second person you see is out of his or her box on Stella, the truth is that the number of binge drinkers cf. the population is rather small. That said, of course , it's not good to see or experience the antics of these people of a Saturday night.

However, if alcohol is taxed/banned/rationed to the vast majority just to address a problem with a small minority, then that is essentially wrong.

What should be done is to examine the reasons why these (normally) young people turn to drink and drugs. As a society have we let these people down? Incidentally, it's not just here that we have this problem, Australia is also having difficulties with drunken youths. So, why do they do it? Can they be encouraged to change their behaviour in a way that essentially makes them voluntarily seek a new way of spending their social hours. This is the way to look at it. Any moves to tax, ration or ban alcohol adversely affects the majority and does not address the underlying social causes, IMHO.

So......6 extra bouncers door staff, plus 2 old bill, and you can only buy 2 pints at a time.

Without even thinking about it's obvious someone has screwed up the maths, because you ain't gonna take enough money over the jump in an hour to cover the extra wages needed if you restrict what the punter can buy..

Agreed.

Pubs are already closing at an unprecedented rate as it is. The last thing they need is more red tape.

this is actually happening, i cant remember the exact figures as to how many landlords have signed up for it but can remember one has told them to poke it,a few are thinking about it but the majority are going along with it, this just means that more people will get tanked up at home before going out, so be prepared for yet more pubs to close down :'(.

Meaning Tesco will get all the margin for selling siad booze instead of the pubs (which, unlike Tesco, do actually have a role to play in the community). >:(

My daughter paid £27 for 2 cocktails in London recently. :o :o
I think she wanted a sympathetic response, the one she got was,"a fool and their money are easily parted", ::)
