i agree with turk - this story (i know it's not real) left a bad taste in my mouth - actually - i'd quite like to slap the guy if i met him
statistically whats more likely to happen is that the gun gets taken off "dirty harry" and used against him
the mugger, having taken what he needs, now ditches the knife and mugs the next victim with a gun
this is known as escalation and its idiot right-wing gun nuts that are to blame with their ludicrous right to bear arms
didn't appreciate the racist undertones either
so i'll also apologise for being a killjoy on this one
sorry
That's a fair old generalisation there bj
Aside from the obvious humour intended by the piece this seems to have excited some prickly response which I find quite surprising.
On a more real-world point however, I would suggest that such decisions regarding the right of a victim to escalate an incident to the point where the mugger is the object of attention rests solely with the victim. Is it being suggested, sotto voce, that victims should submit in the face of such cowardly and unsocial behaviour? I would be inclined to use whatever weapons I had to hand to defend myself.
There seems to be a consensus amongst the left that such perpetrators should be allowed to behave in this fashion without sanction, citing under-privilege and poor social opportunity as being the prime motivators for it.
The prime reason that such behaviour exists in this country is the unrealistic concern of the bleeding Trendies from the left, more than adequately propped up by the gutless machinations of the superficial institutions created by New Labour and the nanny state being engineered by Brussels, giving a veneer of understanding to these unacceptable acts.
It's about time that the perpetrators of such acts were confronted otherwise the streets will not be safe to walk and it’s also about time that ordinary decent people stood up for their rights to go about their business without interference from these feral and useless individuals, always trying to get something for nothing.
Forgive me if that sounds like a rant, it isn't really and it's not directed at bannjaxx whose analysis on most things I am reasonably comfortable with.
In my capacity of being a whore of the state for longer than I care to remember, I have direct experience of the trauma these acts place on the victims, not only at the time, but in the aftermath.
If this problem is not addressed robustly any of you reading this piece might well be the next victim. The statistics to back that up, are far from a generalisation.
