bloody P.N.C
« on: 21 August 2009, 20:19:51 »

is it possible to get my details changed on the police national computer. got pulled over early hours of monday on the way to london. traffic officer was adament that i wasnt the legal/registered owner of my car. apparently my car is registered  and insured by a christine ......... not me (kristian). tried to tell the officer that they must of made a mistake whilst enetring my details but he just said that they dont make mistakes. after checking all my details aswell as checking the voters roll and all driving liscences at my address he then climb all over the car looking for something to do me for. after a total of nearly 40 mins he finally sent me on my way.

this is the 4th time this year i have been pulled over for this and am starting to find it a bit annoying to be honest.

The police just get their feed from the DVLA, you need to contract them to get records updated.

Don't start me on the DVLbloody>:(

Recently swopped my silver elite estate with my current tractor. Tractor had a private plate the owner wanted to swop the plate from the the tractor to the elite. Now just to confuse them further the elite was in SWMBO's name and the tractor was going into my name. SWMBO got a letter saying she was no longer owner of the elite. I got a letter confirming the plate had transfered, with a new replacement tax disc saying the V5C would follow. V5C turned up 3 weeks later in SWMBO's name  >:(Took me a month to get them to change it and to cap it all they've added me as a new owner and denied it was their fault  :o

I wouldn't hold out much hope of DVLA Swansea getting it right. On my last car they got my surname wrong so I filled in the back of the registration document and sent it back. They corrected my surname but changed my Christian name to 'Andfew' (maybe it's the Welsh variant?)

If you are near a 'Local Vehicle Licensing Office' you might have more success if you go in to see them. I found them helpful & polite last time I visited one (about 10 years ago).

I believe they never make mistakes!  ::) That's why if you ever need to send your paper licience off for a plastic card type it's best to take a photocopy of it so that when it comes back without all your entitlements you have something to argue the toss with .... because as said, DVLA don't make mistakes!  :y  :y  :y

I was pulled over by traffic cops 6 months ago. Sitting in the back of their car i was informed that the PNC showed that i wasnt insured for my car. Im fully comp, always have been but they insisted i wasnt. The driver was being reasonable but the cop in passenger seat started getting really shirty with me.  >:(saying things like " We get guys like you all the time saying honestly officer i am insured, then after 20 mins of checking they never are." and" Stop mucking us about mate,we know your not insured so just tell us the truth and it saves everyone time" and the best one yet " The PNC is 99.9% accurate, and it tells us you havnt got any insurance!" :-? ::)
Obviously by this time i was getting a bit peed off and offered them to follow me or drive me to my house where i would show them the documents. The passenger cop says no,and told me to produce them at the station within 7 days. I told him i would be there within half an hour with them. ( obviously he didnt believe me)
Anyway, upon going to the station and waiting for half an hour whilst my documents were checked, the female officer came out and said...."Thankyou very much Mr  xxxxx.....We are satisfied that you are fully insured!! Now,how the hell could she tell i was and the tossers in the car, especially the passenger said i wasnt? Surely they use the same computer for this information!? I was bloody raging! >:( >:( What a waste of everyones time and with the attitude from the cops in the car its no wonder the police are held in such low regard by joe public.
My mate, who was in the car with me when i was pulled said i should make a complaint. My answer was if i did that i would probably be "marked" and stopped all the time.

I live 2 minutes walk from the DVLA one advantage of being that close is if there is a mistake its straight up and have a chat
but I think they double check the Swansea ones as they don't want the locals complaining as they are too close  ;D

according to me brother(police traffic div) many cars have a "marker on them"usualy as they suspect it of being involved in some nefarious goings on, and you need to find a friendly policeman or station to ask them tohave it removed :y

You only have to google dvla error/problem to find out that the purported 1% error rate is well documented. Mopeds reg as tractors etc.

Computer error: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/5292111/DVLA-issues-thousands-of-duplicate-tax-discs-due-to-computer-error.html

A mate of mine imports foreign motorbikes, he cries weekly at dvla antics.

AFAIK only the force that put a marker on can remove it. As for insurance details -- these are not on the PNC itself but fed down from the insurers database ( which is about a week behind). Thinking about it they could be fed via the DVLA database (who get it from the insurers database anyway) ----- whichever, I expect the girl at the station used common sense and phoned the insurer, or used no sense at all and accepted the docs at face value ::)
