Whilst not making any excues for the parents of these children, we need to seriously look at the school holidays.  We are now in week 5 and the problems started last week, for many there are still 2 weeks holiday to go.  Children, generally no longer bring in the harvest, so time for a change.  This is my personal opinion. :)

I agree,

If we did anything like that or even thought about doing things like that we would get a good hiding that you could not sit for a month.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1208329/Actress-Brooke-Kinsella-recounts-raw-brothers-murder.html

This is an article about Ben Kinsella, towards the end of the article his sister describes how the murderers families (at court)spat at her family ,called them scum and told her dad that he should "show respect.

Not much you can say about people like that apart from Gas them. >:(

That is a very good point, Vamps. The children of low-income families are more likely to act anti-socially than those of higher income units. I think most would agree with that statement. The higher income families will pay for the foreign holidays, the holiday activity courses, and so on. Those on low incomes will not be able to do so. Their children will, over the course of six weeks, become bored and disaffected...as well as being envious of their peers who are in Disneyland.

I think we need to rethink these long summer breaks.

Once again, a good point well made, Vamps.  :y

.........although it is a relevant viewpoint,I could point out that I had 8 weeks of summer holidays from school every year, lived in a council house, didnt go abroad until I was 30 years old.I never got up to anything like that.I was brought up to know the difference between right and wrong and if I did anything remotely like that my old man would have given me a hiding that I would never have forgotten. ;)

But this is what we have lost, as I have said before, we have kids being brought up by kids, 3rd generation on non working parents, where their rights empower the people whilst dis-empowering the authorities and the law...  :(  until this changes, well........... :question

I agree Mike, take away their "rights" and give them strict guidelines on civilised behaviour. If that doesnt work...well,I better not type what I would suggest doing after that, but I do think something drastic needs to be done and soon.

Not dissimilar to my upbringing, but today the world has changed. Aside from the right/wrong issue, with which I fully concur, the cost of keeping our kids occupied is huge. Additionally, whilst I could happily go out on the street and play with my peers (most of whom grew up to be normal citizens), the streets these days are the domain of disaffected, drug-taking, foul-mouthed, feral kids and I don't let my children out there for that very reason.  :(

There are many uninhabited islands off our coast ,where the uncivilised could be placed.
we could then start again with a clean sheet, having learned the lessons. :y :)

Absolutely, these are the streets I work, fortunately not the streets where I live, I am lucky and can happily let Miss Vamps, 9 years, play out with little concern, not without a mobile phone though.  A modern convenience / safeguarding item, that did not exist when I freely played as a child..... :)

Unless I'm reading that wrong, the headline says 'strung up' and the story says 'tied him to a tree'.

It is a case that some of the little brats are too well protected these days knowing full well that they cannot be touched because there scummy parents have taught them as such.

All this PC, H&S rubbish is a pile of pants. the kids have done wrong stick them under house arrest and tag the parent as well to ensure they stay with the kid. (they aren't going anywhere other than down the dole office anyway)

I live on a council estate but am lucky enough to own my own property. The local council have tried to run various activities but when the few scum kids spoiled it for the majority they cancelled it

when i was young we had loads to do in the school holidays so there was no boredom, but we did get up to no good now and then, but saying that, we wouldnt of even thought of doing something like that. if the kids know they can get away with it they are going to do it. there is no punishment today, no respect for others or there property. if the parents dont give a break then they wont give a break what the kids do.
