Booked car in today for track rod ends.  Nice garage man said just to do the ends and not the whole assembly as you have to remove the boots and its feet would get cold :-/ so not to bother.

His says the pattern parts are just as good as Vx and probably only cost a fiver each so he'll get them in. :)

I go to pick it up and "£102 all in Sir"  :-X Speechless.

He explained he had two track rod ends sent over, one costing £11 each (still in a box) but they were too short - mine needed the big buggers at £20 something each side + vat.

Ho hum. :(  Not sure of the exact price as I'll settle up tomorrow.

But it has solved the knocking issue and just need the tracking reset again on Saturday. (No full geometry adjustment up north)

What a cowboy....he fitted track rod ands adn didn't set the tracking....if he doesnt have the kit he shouldn't be fitting them in the first place..!

He wound them out and wound the new ones back the same number of turns.  Said the car was undriveable afterwards and had set it himself  - not a bad job tbh it drives straight with no pull - but its back to the 4 way tracking centre for me to be sure.

Well, he did that wrong then. He needed to measure them if he was going to 'guess'  >:(

hummm blimey!  :o

Glad i found this place... nearly all jobs I will tackle my self i think. Apart from messy jobs which i get local man to do...

Chopsdad, you use this garage a lot? I do jobs i can myself, ones i can't or can't be bothered get left to me local mechanic.... i found him to be very good. Good rates and so far very trust worthy.

Might be worth asking around or trying a local guy, I first found this guy in Yell. He was the only guy who could do my air-con condenser last year when i wanted to. Was so impressed went back, hes a cash back hander type guy, but done all my work very well  :y
