Petrol price rise-does it matter?
« on: 31 August 2009, 18:18:42 »

Been doing some rough sums:

2p a litre is about 9p a gallon.

If we take a biggish car, say an omega, at 28mpg then 28 miles=9p. 280 miles=90p. 560 miles =£1.80.

It's not gonna kill us is it?

I know, i know, it's just another expense that we dont need. But if we took no notice of the dicks that came on the news claiming to be destitute, I dont think we'd be that bothered.

You ain't getting 28mpg out of a MIG around town, no matter how much you drive like Miss Daisy.

No. I took what I guessed would be a figure somewhere between urban and rural. Round town I used to get about 22-23 from my 2.5 CDX.

I used to average 22mpg from mine as well in an urban cycle, and it would definately pull the claimed 32mpg on a motorway at 60mph.

In short, it was running just as Vx intended it to.

It's just another one of those costs of living that we just absorb and get on with! My work mileage is 30p per mile and doesn't go up with petrol! >:(

Feels like a lot of those at the mo, shame income isn't increasing!

And that, Nick, is the way to do it. Have a moan now and again, or a little tut at the prices.
But everything these days is a major issue that the government needs to sort out. Too many 'special interest' groups who have to be taken into account. It's on the news again as I type. Pathetic.

at the end of the day they could put it upto £20 a litre and there is sod all we could do about it. we all need fuel to get around. like nick says, just put fuel in, drive then fill up again. just make sure you claim as much of it back as possible when you fill in your tax returns

I would feel a lot better about paying extra if it was all going towards new armoured vehicles for the army/marines.  However we all know this is to absorb the irresponsible actions of a few wbankers......

We all know the army is going to get shafted in the next Strategic Defence Review, I hope those plush homes and nice cars feel real good for those that profited from it.

Hmm......what was I saying about 'special interests'.

Dont get me wrong, the forces need supplies, but lots of other people would claim their particular group was more important.

You underestimate the power of the people.
Look back to 1981 and 1985 (among other years) if you think you can't do anything  ;)

Supermarkets are usually cheapest but i can't be bothered to sit in the queue. I try to fill up at the cheapest but as said it's no great shakes & not really worth worrying about.
None of bought our Migs with economy in mind!!!!

What poxes me off is the fact that supermarkets control the cost of local fuel prices. I was in Wrexham last Tuesday and the petrol in the local Sainsburys was 101.9 yet in Northwich the same day at Sainsburys it was 105.9 >:(
