Where was the bank holiday traffic?
« on: 01 September 2009, 10:13:35 »

Me and son Greg had to go to the Isle of Wight on Saturday to provide the disco for a friend's wedding and was dreading the journey as it was a bank holiday weekend and there was the annual scooter rally taking place on the island with 20,000 scooters coming in from all over the UK and Europe.
Sailed round the M25 without a single holdup and got to Portsmouth in around 2 hours (around 120 miles).
Arrived at ferry terminal half hour early and despite hundreds of scooters, got on my scheduled crossing without any hassle. :y
Had a return ferry booked on Sunday for 12.30pm and arrived at the terminal around 11.50am. No queues at all and drove straight on the 12pm sailing.
A3 was empty all the way to M25 and once again very light traffic on M25. :y
So, where was all the traffic we were warned would be on the roads at the weekend?? :-/
Can only assume everyone must have travelled on Friday and Monday.
Not complaining though, really chuffed it was so easy. :y :y :y

Maybe its a sign of the current financial poo poo a lot of us are in. I know I would have loved to take the babies away for a couple of days but funds just wouldn't permit.

Ended up doing the well worn car boot sale route instead. Actually saw a proper Omega dog guard for £5, but seeing as A) I have a saloon and B) I don't have a dog, I figured that may have been a waste of the money I don't have ::)

I do remember reading a few months back that traffic levels are at their lowest for a long time because of the recession.

I had to travel up the welsh coast friday evening. I thought it would be manic and allowed loads of extra time but it was really quiet!
The people we met up with live in a big coastal resort and they said it was like a ghost town!

Very odd! :-?

Yep, that was on Friday but it seems Saturday and Sunday were the best days to travel by car. :y

Never want to see another 2 stroke powered device in my life. >:( Still got the stuff in my eyes. There was a Lambretta everywhere you looked.

Traffic was all in Stockton at 4.30pm tonight, I nicked of early :-X  Worst commute home ever, :'(  possibly as a result of the A19 North being closed just south of the A689 junction. ::) ::)

Yeah you're not wrong about that Kev. Got stuck behind loads of them getting off the ferry at Fishbourne for several miles......got choked to bloody death on 2 stroke fumes. >:(

If I'd have known you were there at the weekend could have met up. Where were you staying? We were just outside Ventnor in a place called Roud.
