imagine a length of rope wrapped around the earths circumference and pulled tight OK?

so that rope is 40000km long (approx)

now imagine you wanted that rope to be 1 foot above ground all the way round - how much longer would the rope have to be?

guess away - you won't believe the answer (unless you're cem and you calculate it:y

 ;D thanks :y :y

pay attention at the back

(C)ircumference=40000km=2xPIxR(adius)
R=C/2PI
R=40000/2PI=6366.197724km

now, add 1' (0.0003048km) to radius

gives you 6366.198029km
giving a circumference of 40000.00192km
take away 40000km, you're left with 0.00192km or 1.92m or 6'3"  8-)

i love stuff like that  :)
