Giant Oil Field discovered
« on: 03 September 2009, 09:17:26 »

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2009/sep/02/bp-oil-find-gulf-of-mexico

this is good news, especially if you have shares in BP! - what concerns me is that if this is a giant find which could be as much as 4 billion barrels and even if BP could extract 100% of it, the planet consumes over 85m barrels a day!!

so this field will provide us with 47 days oil, except it won't even do that....

thats 100% extraction - its much more likely to be half that at best - so not even a month - and this is a "giant" field - we need to find one of these each month to keep us going  :o

You need to remember, Bannjaax (and especially next time you are flying at 37,000 ft and looking down), the world uses just 1 cubic mile of oil a year that's relatively small - as you would appreciate from the air - and we have reserves enough to last many decades.

World governments wont start to panic just yet. They'll wait until it could actually be them in office when it happens, then they'll panic.

Course the Americans, if they have any sense, will extract only a modicum of the oil and continue using everyone elses oil.

Thank god we have loads of oil reserves, won't be seeing any price hikes because of shortages then. What a relief we can all sleep easy. :y

Haven't been myself but can't you see the Great Wall of China from Space too? Also the huge (compared to the Hoover dam) 3 gorges Yangste river dam (70 stories high).  ;D ;D
