would love to know who fitted it

ive got ann an alarm system the same as mine with the remote start and total closure etc etc

but i had to take the old alarm system out first
i traced the wires from the little led light (which never goes off????) to the main box for the alarm and then traced where the wires run from there

followed them down to the passenger kick panel

so i went ahead and took the panel off, and straight away i was shocked to what i saw :o
live wires left bare no tape on them or anything :o :o >:( >:(

i started to disconnet it all and make the wireing safe and just by moving a wire a light would come on or go off
so i took the batery straight off the car

ive now got out the old alarm system ready for me to fit the new alarm tomorrow :y

i would love to know who the hell fitted that alarm >:(
the alarm is a clifford alarm

I used to fit Thatcham cat1's many moons ago and have seen some real bodge jobs that I've had to make good. It was nearly always the Toad and Clifford cat1's too!

never understood why people fit aftermarket alarms in the first place? They always seem such a pita even when fitted correctly.

An 8.5KW shower, wired in 2.5mm˛ T&E, and spurred off the upstairs ring main.....that's when you know you are lucky to be alive.

Having learnt a thing or two off my electrician friend - even I understand the dangers there  ::)

I've seen photo's of similar DIY gas instalations ie a length of garden hose to extend the gas main!  :-?

My favourite was my last house when I bought it.

60's bungalow with the traditional (for the time) single 13A socket in each room, all on a nice ring main.

DPO had wired at least another 8 13A sockets (some double) but, obviously not a fan of ring mains, he had wired each of  these radially to a point just above the kitchen, using whatever wire he had hanging around. Here all the wires were rammed into a chocolate block.

These were all fed from the now redundant cooker feed (gas cooker and hob - another horror story for another day). Problem was, he couldn't ram the 6mm2 T&E into the chocolate block in addition to all the radials so he went down to 1mm2 for a short length beforehand :o.

So, half the sockets in the house, fed via a length of 1mm2 T&E fused at 30 amps. :-X

He'd also spurred from the immersion heater feed to power the central heating, but had simply twisted the wires together and left them laying in the loft, with no attempt at insulation whatsoever, let alone a junction box. :o

Oh, and the whole house had no earth connection whatsoever, as he'd disconnected the bonding to the mains water feed (which had a plastic meter housing anyway) and it didn't have PME.

I'm glad I bought that house, because if it had been someone less "au fait" with things electrical someone would have been killed without a doubt. :(

That's exactly why we're all now tied up in red tape with Part P etc! I wonder how long it will be, before we have to show Corgi registration (or what ever it's called now) or Part P cert before we can go into Wickes/B&Q and buy cable sockets etc etc
