Photo editing software advice
« on: 18 September 2009, 16:39:21 »

The missus is after some half decent photo editing software for producing piccies for the website.  I have a photoshop disc somewhere from an install a few machinwe ago  (not sure if I still have the activation key anymore --- so that's basically a coaster).

Anyway ...she is using Corel at the mo, which is a bit too basic ( and the PS probably too over engineered for her purposes).

So, what do you guys n' gals suggest I go purchase ?????

Adobe Photshop Elements 7 is always on top of the reviews I have seen. You can download it here for 30-day free trial.

http://tryit.adobe.com/uk/photoshopelements/?sdid=DMHGK

Costs around £36 to buy here:

What kind of editing is she doing? If its tweaking photos something like Picassa would do the job nicely.

Photoshop CS3 or any of the earlier versions are extremley powerful tools, most people don't use 90% of its features.

It can be a bit difficult to get used to (such as layers) but once you master it, you can be surpised what you can do  :y

Yes, Tunnie, mainly tweaking photos. Not heard of Picassa -- will do some googling  ;)

Will also have a look at Photoshop Elements, cheers Nickbat.

Its a photo management tool, organises your photos for you, has some very good tweaking options.

The photos certainly need managing. I bought her a new camera just under a year ago and its already taken over 12000 images (thank The Lord it's digital! )

It has its uses - I quicky drew some arrows on stuff earlier - but its almost as shite as the app was back in 1985 when it was released ;D

The tool I was thinking of as nearest to PIcasso was Microsoft 'Codename Max', not Paint

Yup, simple tool for simple people. Mind you, not looked at it for a couple of years.  But I'm sure it has a place for some people, as people like my mum could never use photoshop

I use 'The GIMP' (Gnu Image Manipulation Program).

There is even a version packaged for MS Windows http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/  :)
