Isn't it ironic that the parties are now vying with each other over cuts? 

Clegg says LibDems cuts would be "savage" (mind you, since they won't get to form a government he could say what he likes) and now Balls is saying he'll cut £2bn from education. The Tories meanwhile are keeping quite, but it won't be long before they announce their cuts.

Of course our finances are in a complete mess, and I do think that pubic expenditure must be reined in, but they need to be very careful. If the economy gets too weighed down with cuts and increased personal taxes, the total tax revenue to the Exchequer will plummet, and we then enter a vicious circle of less and less revenues and a steady worsening of the economic health of the country. 

Somehow, they need to find a way of getting the economy booming again.

All very ironic given that the last few elections have been fought over increased spending plans.

2 bn from education....i bloody hope not, unless its efficiency measures, education is more important now than ever with competition for jobs and increasing world workplace.
Aslong as education and healthcare dont suffer i wont mind what they cut really. Shame it wont lead to lower taxes any time soon.

the problem the tories have is they're always claiming to be the party to reduce taxes, the only way they can do that is to carefully reduce spending without upsetting anyone - this can't be done which is why Cameron is keeping his lips sealed waiting to see how other parties ideas go down and cherry-pick the poular ones - good tactics, if a bit cowardly - the advantages of being in opposition - hang around long enough and eventually you'll look like the best candidate

He will never be able to best the masters of this trick - you know, the ones who have landed us in this shit after 12 years of mis-rule and incompetence.

who ever takes over ,and goes to the cupboard will find it bare , public spending will be slashed, pensions and jobs will go , costs have to be cut big time , tax increases,
not looking forward to the next four years

1) Cut ministerial pay and expenses to that of the General Civil Service (NOT to that of the Senior Civil Service).

2) Cut Senior Civil Service pay and expenses to that of the higher ranks of the General Civil Service.

3) Drastically cut levels of benefits to the habitually unemployed and re-distribute to those in genuine need.

4) Totally cut benefits to those who have never paid a penny into the NI system since leaving education, without good explanation.

5) Follow the leads of Doncaster's Mayor and Arizona's sheriff.

....and it seems that Cameron was a bit naive in the aftermath of the last defeat and subsequent leadership change to say that he would be matching Liebour's spending plans.

A wee bit of pandering there?  He will have to have very broad shoulders under that sharp suit if he is to take any of the weight which will be deposited from the last 12 years of Liebour excess.

I read  today that Mandelson has now given up hope of helping Brown,he considers him a lost cause and word is that he may retire with health problems before the election as his huge ego couldnt face the inevitable humiliation.
Mandy ,it is said,will now concentrate on his number one objective,of doing what is necessary in (and to )this country to lay the path for his friend Tony to be installed as president of the EU.
If that happens,all these domestic issues will pale into insignificance.The chaos that hateful wee sh1te will cause just doesnt bear thinking about.

Remembering our fragrant Lordship from Ulster I can say that his malevolence is only surpassed by his self regard and the desire to advance his personal position at all costs.

In Blair he has a like minded spirit and when both forces are joined, this country can kiss goodbye to any form of independent decision making ability for years.

Broon was a mere stooge in the plan to get Mandelson back into the sphere of influence and as such, I have to say that the team concerned, played a blinder.
