First Day at Sky
« on: 21 September 2009, 18:49:37 »

Good first day, lots to learn, but oddly i found it all very straight forward, nothing taxing. Hardest thing is to know where exactly to go to fix the problem, which server / which config panel ect.

Got to the bottom of an issue Orange reported to Sky, using things i learnt from my last job it was all fairly simple.

Found out how some of the new iPhone apps work behind the scenes, all very interesting stuff.

Doing standard hours 9-5 first 2 weeks to get trained up, then its into the 3 days on 3 days off rota. These 2 weeks will be a good test bed for a possible perm full time position, the morning run was a bitch, 1hr50 mins. 40 mins of that was the last sodding few miles along the M4 into Osterley Park.

Run back was nice and easy, 1hr15, going to experiment and leave earlier tomorrow, see if it makes any difference.

Good to hear it went well Tunnie.

Was the run in on the bike or in the Omega ? If the latter things will improve when on two wheels --- and even better if you aren't stuck on the 9 - 5 treadmill

If you think that was interesting, wait till you find out how the iPhone is "spoken to" so that any application can run, rather than the ones Apple say you can run  ;)

I used to do the run to Brentford every day, although living in Feltham for a good few years beforehand taught me the backstreets that reduced all that crap to 15 minutes.

Save yourself time and come off at Heston services.
Follow the service area right to the back, and you are 10 mins from work.

It's just that, when I lived in London, Feltham was the place where all the young offenders disappeared to. ;D

That's the old borstal on Bedfont Rd, the closest I got to being there was a 1 hour stopover for lunch when I was being transferred from Wandsworth to Standford Hill back in 94.

Just looked further, not sure you can get through.  :-/

Looks like there is a travelodge there now, with a barrier. No Entry sign on the round about, and where the road exits back onto the main road, it says Barrier.  :(

With the heavy traffic, its no surprise they have blocked it off  :(
