New autotrader website...bloody annoying.
« on: 23 September 2009, 23:19:41 »

Has anyone looked at the new version of the autotrader website? It's bloody useless...I don't have a great computer...it copes with most internet sites but not those with high flash content and stuff that takes up loads of memory. The new at website is making my computer run really slowly.
I buy and sell cars, I use autotrader everyday without fail and it's now taking me 20 mins to look at 4 cars or so.
Maybe it's time for a new computer  :-/

If I use my daughter's lap top I'm able to look at the old style site, but, if I use the main PC - same internet connection - I don't get a choice as it will automatically use www2 .blah blah
I do prefer the old site, even told them so on  their surveys .... but obviously they're sticking with the new no matter what the concensus is. I don't know anyone who prefers the new over the old.  :(

 >:( I agree - it's far too slow. Liked the old one better. When you clicked on a car for more details it opened in a seperate, smaller window - now it opens in the same window and you keep having to remember to click back button instead of closing window to get back to list of cars. Suppose I'll get used to it eventually but why change what was an easy site to use? I can't see any obvious improvement.
Rant over - don't want to get my blood pressure up!

I am not disappointed with the speed.  I have a 3.0 Ghz machine (64bit) with just a gig of ram in it and a 256MB GT6600 so am quite happy with it.

Oh Entwood, you star...thanks for that  :y
It genuinely has just taken me 15 minutes to search for one car using the new site. My computer is old, but not that bad. I'm no computer expert but according to the system icon in control panel I've got 288 mb of RAM, and it's a AMD-K7 Processer 588mhz. I know it's windows xp, service pack 2 I think.
All I know is the more RAM you have, the quicker the computer is...I believe.

Sounds like a good time to re-invest some of the profits, Good spec computers can be had for £300, laptops not that much more these days.

This is just the Dell website.

speed is fine for me on both, although the new one is more resource heavy. Its still in beta so its not finished yet.

Andy - Search for Autotrader cars on google, you can usually get back to the old version

It kept freezing my XP3 laptop.
When I ran it on my Vista laptop it started running
slow and then Vista popped up and informed me
that the Site was running a Script that would slow
my system considerably.

Don't know what the Script is that the site is running;
maybe the computer experts on this forum could
shed some light?
