school homework
« on: 24 September 2009, 21:50:19 »

my son has 6 pages of questions on science for homework, he has been back at school for 2 weeks now and hasnt even been taught any of this. is it normal for schools to give such work out before they teach you it. i think its rather disgusting that he will get a detention if he doesnt complete it by tomorrow. and i will be ringing the school tomorrow about it. even i dont know most of it  >:( >:(

They may be setting questions to find out what the class knows, or does not know, as a starting point :-/

I think you are correct Mike :y :y

No doubt they are encouraging the kids to enquire, research, or just write down what they think the answers should be before they start teaching the subject.  Once they have taught the children on this subject, they will ask the children to fill in the answers again to highlight how much they have learnt.  I believe that is standard teaching practice. :y :y :y

Agreed Lizzie..

Research on a specific subject for a children is important .. They try to teach you a way to develop yourself also on your own..  And after the schools finished there are many subjects you need to learn yourself..  :y

I had a chemistry teacher.
She used to give exams with lessons that were not explained yet.
Of course nobody could do anything about her cause she was "messing" with the headmaster :P
Ah those were the days
