It has taken me 30 mins to start a new Audi A4
« on: 29 September 2009, 22:04:15 »

Booked a car through work last thing today.

Just had it delivered (21:00)

Needed to move it onto the drive, no handbook, bloke was quick to get the paper work done and get off.

There is a slot in the dash for the 'Key', which,  when inserted, gets you to ignition position 1 in my good old terms.

There is no obvious start button...

Eventually, having tried pushing all other buttons / foot pedals etc, I pushed the 'key' again.  A message appears :- 'push the break pedal to start'  Still need to work out if it needs to be in park or drive? But eventually got the engine started.

Then came the hand break  :-[

Releasing the hand break still leaves the light on the dash.  It releases it ready for you to drive away...but you need to know that.

I've had a couple of glasses of wine but I am left a bit bemused.  Where are we going with all this ???

pushing the brake pedal to start is a new one on me  :D

Where is the fun in that? I kinda like turning the key and hearing the starter motor turn over, all these modern starters leave you feeling a bit disconnected.

We should all go back to kick start engines  ;D

It just seems to be technology for technology sake.

I'll report back on how it drives.

Had an Insignia last week, motorway mile eater, very comfortable, very economic, bland inside, tries to be a Jag XF

 .....

I don't think he meant 'press brake to start' he meant that the brake pedal had to be pressed before the starter would opperate. BMW's are like that .... why you'd need to with an auto I'll never know, it's just doubling up on the start in Park or Neutral.
Father-in-laws' semi-auto Meriva is the same .... as I found out whenn all eyes were watching me try to start the bloody thing  :-[

My semi auto Citroen is the same, foot on brake or it won't start, and have to be in neutral as there is no 'Park'
Recently had 2 tyres put on, in Kwickfit, the boss sent out a youngish lad to bring my car in, it took him ages, we could see him looking all over, I glanced at the boss, he knew.... :D :D Electronic handbrake with a switch on the dash top, though you can just drive off and it will go off anyway...... ::) ::) ::)
