hot elite 3.2
« on: 07 October 2009, 20:00:43 »

When I stop after a short journey (3 urban miles) the smell of hot engine is really pronounced (sweet smell). This is so much that passengers comment on the heat. The temp guage reads normal but I am having to top up the coolant. Garage put the system on pressure test all day and no loss of pressure.

It's when you have an oily smell as well that you know to worry!

With mine it was the usual cam cover gaskets ::) ::)

Sounds like a coolant leak somewhere.  The obvious places are:

HBV
Oil cooler plate
Thermostat
Coolant plug
or any of the pipes

If its a slow leak you may have trouble locating it so try this:
