Apprenticeship
« on: 07 October 2009, 20:35:34 »

I enquired today about an apprenticeship, now I know i'm knocking on a bit but I thought the only way out of this unemployment was for some training. Have a guess how much an hour they are paying?

Not a lot .. but the only "apprentices" I have ever worked with knew nothing, did nothing, and were worth nothing until they actualy realised they were there to learn and not for a holiday.

I believe apprentices for the first year fall outside the minimum "wage" as they are not considered to be "workers" but "trainees". Once they have done a year they can do some "work" and so are now due the minimum wage...

That is bloody disgraceful! It is nothing short of exploitation :(
When I first started my apprenticeship in 1969 I was paid the princely sum of 10 pence an hour (£4.00 a week). It was 'on the job training' & you weren't told twice! You picked up the job very quickly in those days, and the blokes were damn good teachers too! :y
