Trust my luck!
« on: 04 October 2009, 19:28:03 »

Travelling around southern Kent today and late this afternoon as I approached a junction on my right, I saw and heard a police car coming out of the "wrong side" of the junction passing other cars also exiting the same junction.  Stopped successfully to let them out, and a few moments later, bang! An idiot behind me decided to stop on my nearside rear wing, taking out the light cluster and creasing the wing itself!!! >:( >:( >:( >:(  My 5 year old grandson was asleep but thank God well secured in his car seat, but on the side of the impact, so has ended up being taken to hospital complaining that his neck hurts :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

The police saw everything, and as they were indirectly involved in the collision as the reason why I stopped, we ended up with their Sergeant  (who I know) coming out to the scene to take statements, undertake breath tests of all parties involved, including their officers (standard procedure), and provide me with police insurance details along with the names and numbers of the PC's involved.  At one stage we had four police cars at the scene and an ambulance, at a junction renowned for a bad crash a few years ago involving a police car on a treble 9 call that killed a young mother at eleven o'clock at night!

The AA are sorting everything out in terms of the insurance company claim and repairs, the loan car, any medical assistence we may need, but I am more concerned about the five year old.  I could only drive my car directly to my home due to the legal condition of my car missing a lens cover, so I am awaiting his mother letting me know what the hospital have said. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Why can't people stop without hitting others!  My first and before this last RTC was back in 1979 when a prat in a Granada used the rear of my Cortina Estate, that was stationery, to stop!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I trust you are OK & I hope the little one is too.

As in the case of my wife the other day, there are too many people on the road who are in effect driving without due care & attention ie not concentrating on the task in hand.  >:(

Lizzie, I have a set of rear NS light clusters which are cracked and heading for the bin if you want them so you can use your car to get about until the ins. co. sort you out ;)  :-* :y

Glad to hear it was only the car dented and not you or the littl'un. At least he is being checked out, but I am sure it will turn out OK.

The last big ding I had was when someone tried to park their mini in the boot of my cortina on a roundabout twixt Worthing and Littlehampton .... as I got out of my car she uttered those immortal words, "I have been meaning to get those brakes fixed!".  Needless to say her insurance paid out without any trouble.

I am sure the littl'un will be getting lots of love and attention over the next few days, but keep an eye on yourself too, Lizzie. Any neck or back aches or headaches and it's down to the hospital! OK ?! :-*

Shocking news indeed Ms Zoom - I do hope injuries, if any, are of little consequence :y

Yet another example of keen observation by one the of the mindless flock infesting the roads today :y

Thank you greatly for all your kind words, which I sincerely appreciate  :-* :-* :-* :-* :y :y :y :y :y

I am please to say the 5 year old, Robert, is now back home although the hospital consultants found that both he and his mum have suffered bad muscle injury due to whiplash.  They have been told to return to hospital if either start being sick during the night, and take things very easy.  Apart from feeling a bit of shock and being tearful, I am ok, as is my daughter's partner.

In all thank God no one was killed or really seriously injured, and yes my insurance brokers, the AA, have stated that this claim will be very straightforward as the other party will be held totally to blame especially with the witnesses I have!

Just now worried about if they will try and write off my car!!
