Whether we accept Global Warming as a fact or a fiction, our unprecedented reliance on fossil fuels has to be changed, because one thing we can all agree on is they ain't gonna last forever. The whole debate over whether Global Warming is scientific fact or something akin to the perpetual war of Orwells 1984 or indeed The War On Terror is redundant. The debate should be about how we go about reducing our addiction to what is an unsustainable energy source, irrespective of whether or not it is damaging the environment, and, possibly leading us down the road to further global unrest as its scarcity provokes panic and fear amongst those most addicted as they seek out their next hit of blessed crude.I am not fully swayed either way over global warming but I can not argue a case for sticking my head in the sand and passing on a world to my grandchildren that is energy bankrupt when with a little forethought and courage we could start to meet the demands on our planet for energy in better ways than simply setting fire to bits we dig up.
No one is talking about "sticking our head in the sand", but there is a gulf of difference between, on the one hand, a rational debate about the climate, our future energy sources (and the encouragement of research & development in new greener technology through enterprise) and, on the other, being lied to, fed propaganda, losing our freedom, and possibly having our whole way of life in the west destroyed on the altar of bogus science...and all for politics, not the improvment of our environment.
The amount of money being poured into this scam could, if used justly, provide clean water and food to those who need them, protect rainforests and, through tax breaks, inspire the development of new technology for a cleaner and greener world.
The crux of the issue is that I am totally opposed to government propaganda.
BTW, there's plenty of oil around for several decades, if not more.
