A request for iPhone users running latest firmware
« on: 12 October 2009, 10:08:33 »

For those of you that have iPhone latest firmware allowing voice control, i have a favour to ask if you have any spare audio cables about.

I like the idea of voice control, so when i am on the bike i can select music, albums, from voice.

Trouble is the standard Apple headphones are rubbish, and the line mic and remote are too far down.

Would it be possible to make up your own headset, using a mic lead into the iPhone, adding a button to th remote, then splitting it for headphones / mic feed. So i could take a mic to my helmet and speakers?

Just a thought, i know iPhones are very fussy when it comes to hardware.

This might be useful to my boss, given that he's just dropped his gayphone and the touchscreen is now about as much use as a choccy teapot. ::)

crApple gayPhone screens seem to be troublesome even if looked after.  But if it looks abused, I guess warranty is out of the question ;D

Looks like we've cleared that one up. :D

Apparently trying to use it has worn his fingerprints off already.

Would it not be easier to get a extender lead for the normal headphones and then you can have the mike in the helmet and enough lead to run to the phone.

I know a lot of Sony headphones come with them as standard but I'm sure you can pick them
up on their own.

I expect this thread'll be locked soon, the mention of apple, iPhones and Sony all in one may be too much for a certain admin to tolerate.
Surprised the swear filter hasn't kicked in actually.......

There are voice control apps but they are for dialing only (like WM) Because its all apple on the iPhone you can control apple apps, like iTunes on it via voice too...

And you've neglected to consider the mic noise - I doubt any phone will have capability to deal with that.  Give it up as a poor idea.

Autocom is the mutt's nuts for a kit car.  :y

I've had phone, sat nav, 2 way radio & MP3 player all hooked up and working. Was running out of space in the car.  ::)

Ahh. that reminds me. I've got to fix the mic.  in one of my headsets.  :'(

i think i have space under the seat to mount an autocom unit, hand cause its right next to the mini ciggy power supply.

Means i'll have tones of devices > iPaq for TomTom, Phone for music and tunes, and a VAX radio  ;D

I use ipaq for satnav and music, phone for, well, phone, and Icom for bike-bike transceiver (or I did til it broke).

I cannot recommend autocom enough. Don't know current range, but ensure that its the vox activated type, not PTT buttons
