How do I add memory to a laptop
« on: 14 October 2009, 23:55:01 »

swmbo laptop is running slow, our PC advisor says it needs more memory, only go1GB??.  Our PC advisor did a great Job on our home computer, but does not want to 'fit the part' I think just in case something goes wrong, he has advised take to a computer shop.  Bless him, he is only about 14 years old..... Advice please.

No coments from anyone in stoke...... :P :P :P

Have a look at www.crucial.com Mike.
They have a little tool on there that will tell you how much memory you can fit and what type you need.
Fitting is usually simple, unscrew a flap on the bottom of the lappy or under the keyboard.
The memory just pushes into it's slot then clicks down into place.
Remember to wear an anti-static strap when you're doing it though.

Or try http://www.mrmemory.co.uk, I've had quite a lot from them and never had any problems... They're just cheaper than Crucial ::) ::) :y :y

before going to the trouble of adding memory - try running a registry cleaner, anti-malware and anti-virus software.  Computers only run slow when something (nasty) is clogging them up.   Adding more memory doesn't solve the original problem and 1gb should be more than enough to run most applications.

1Gb isn't really enough for vista if you have shared video.

I'd also say crucial - guaranteed to be correct module, and lifetime warranty.  Whatever, USE AN ANTISTATIC STRAP to fit it, anyone who doesn't doesn't understand electronics or computing.

1GB for XP, and 2GB for Vista.

Don't bother with registry cleaners, there isn't one out there that is worth the trouble of installing.
