Opinions please
« on: 06 November 2009, 19:56:58 »

I posted awhile back about buying a new Omega, Well this is the one I thought I was going to buy out of the Elites I had seen http://www.lymingtoncars.co.uk/18749/lymingtonc_stock.htm and frankly it is not up to standard in my opinion, it has an oil leak, a scratch on front bumper a scratch on rear bumper and the paint on the rear bumper is really really flat, also the bonnet and front wings have the same amount of motorway stone damage that I would expect to see on car that has 200k miles.

So I have looked elsewhere and found this http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_popup.jsp?did=82614&pageid=1&originalid=&gid=nogroup&tid=2&start=8&distance=0&adcategory=cars&channel=DEALERPAGE&id=200944345016822

Now I am going to see this in the morning so don't have a fault list for it yet.
But judging by the sellers description over the phone it is in good condition.

I suppose the question is do I hold out for 3.2 Elite or buy a car in better condition but a lesser model.

I have now looked at 3 Elites and all of them have been well overpriced for there condition.

If it had a resprayed front in early years (sounds like rear bumper may have been done), the replacement finish would chip more easily.  They are all 6+ years old and most have the odd ding from being so large-especially on the front bumpers.  Oil leak should be sorted before delivery.

I got fed up a chasing rainbows and bought mine which was ok overall but not perfect, but would buy off here next time as cars on here are more likely to have been looked after and be well sorted.

There's lots about, depends on your urgency  :y

If you don't hold up for what really want Manta whatever you buy will always be second best.

I would continue looking.

The first one at lmington cars is a 3.2 Elite, all 3.2 elites had leather as standard and that doesn't, I would avoid to be honest.

Well then for me an Elite is useless then. Sorry but had leather seats on wife's old Volvo, I won't have them again.  :(

2.5/2.6 Leather was optional, 3.0/3.2 leather was standard  :y

3.2 'Elites' in police spec would have been cloth interior.  If its now masquerading as a civvy car, check for a calibrated speedo and extra holes in the dash and/or boot where extra kit would have been fitted in Police use....

No calibrated speedo, could have been changed I suppose, boot quite clean, nothing untowards on the interior I would say, in fact the interior is the tidiest bit of the car.
