I didn't intend the post to make any sort of "statement"....  I just found it truly amazing....

For the last 13 months I have worked in the court system, and believe me I have seen some "dross" that is supposedly called "human" ... that video and Dave's comments just struck a chord.... and for once it was a nice one ...   :y :y :y

yes but the dross is better thought of than me or you  >:(

Zulu77 - you asked "..are you suggesting therefore that this thread is unworthy of attention?"

(sorry I don't yet know how to do the highlight / reproduce thing).

I did not comment on the absolute or relative magnitude of what this man has done.

I did not comment on how worthy the thread was of attention.

What I did comment on was that some of the replies suggest either a low sensitivity to everyday human endeavour (because a response can only be triggered by unusual endeavour glossily packaged) OR a lack of awareness of everyday human endeavour (because a response can only be triggered by having something put in your lap).

My plea was for people to be MORE aware and MORE sensitive to what's going on around them everyday - not only will it contibrute to a net greater understanding, but may also set their own troubles into context.

I hope this answers your question.

Kevin

Thank you for your considered reply Kevin and I'm glad that you have clarified your point - somewhat - however;

The use of language such as;

Come on people! I think some need of you to get out more;

If you can only be reminded of how fortunate you are etc by a YouTube posting, then (as above) I suggest you look around you a bit better, and get out more.

is rather judgemental on the ability of individual members to read and be motivated by such a contribution.  Indeed on this basis your comments seem to have a direct link to endeavours of those concerned.

endeavour glossily packaged

is that comment related to the OP or the fact that this was presented in a readily viewable format on the video-sharing website?

because a response can only be triggered by having something put in your lap).

Does this not call into question the integrity of the thread?  I feel that one of the great benefits of this forum, apart from the obvious, is that thought provoking matters such as this can be broadcast to those interested enough to read the contribution.

I certainly don't consider this as being tantamount to having something put into one's lap.

My plea was for people to be MORE aware and MORE sensitive to what's going on around them everyday - not only will it contibrute to a net greater understanding, but may also set their own troubles into context.

I would certainly echo that Kevin and one of the many ways of doing just this is to read such valued contributions from the membership here.

Thanks Zulu77 for your response.

Judgmental? - yes I was. As I took advantage of the privilege (not a "right") of expressing my opinion on this forum, the obligation on me is to offer sufficient justification for that opinion, for others to consider it or reject it. But this is going to be long  ... so I would have to come back to it later when I can do it properly.

Is the debate worth continuing, or has it run its course? - what do you think?

Thanks Kevin,  although this has the makings of a great debate, insofar as this thread is concerned I tend to agree that to engage further wouldn't benefit the intentions of the OP.

I will look forward to your thoughts on future matters.

Zulu77, I'll follow your view on this. Thanks for the opportunity to discuss it ... and thanks to Entwood for the original post.

I think the original video is rather glossily and cheesily presented, this may have put one or two people off. But it's still a fantastic acheivement by the two and nothing should detract from this. Puts your everyday life into perspective  :y
