Horrendous.  Many people are now using dogs as weapons-even though this may not have been the case in this instance, it does show what can happen.

What if it was a baby, not another dog?

but those who attack human and other small animals , that are specially trained as assault dogs

Firstly, the dog should've been attached to owner at all times whilst he's on the streets (we all make mistakes).
Secondly, the owner had no idea how to get his dog off the other dog. Once they lock on, they take some getting off.
I would not hesitate in using what ever i needed to use if my Hanna took hold of another dog. Though i always have her the lead when another dog's around or there's a chance of one, i find it's the other dogs that are the problem & if she bit one then that's the other owner's fault (she's defending herself).
I hope that dog in the footage was put down, it's done it once, it'll do it again.

Disgusting, hope that dog gets traced, put down (to protect other happenings) and the owner prosecuted. >:( >:(

Generally speaking there is no such thing as a bad dog just a bad owner. If trained and controlled properly dogs should not pose a problem.
To assess what a dog is like just have a look what is on the other end of the lead.

It is down to the owners. A mate down south had a Staffie bitch called Bella. You could walk her off the lead, playfight with her, children could jump on her but she was always good natured & never a problem to anyone.
Other breeds of dog can be savage too.

My wife used to breed Rotties for a living and totality agree, most people buy these dogs and haven't a clue how to train them and that's where it all goes wrong.
Our 3 kids grew up with rotties and never once were they bitten/attacked.The 2 we still have would prefer to lick you to death than bite you.The other problem is some breeders  just do it for the money and don't vet the buyers. There was quite a few times my wife wouldn't sell a pup.

Isn't it often the way when someone gets hurt that the owner says "he's NEVER done anything like that before"

An arguement in support of the notion that the only dogs that should be allowed are working animals (i.e. Sheep dogs, police dogs & guide dogs etc. that have been properly trained) & not pets.

Someone i know has a dog de bordeux, and was down his house the other day with dog shut in the garden behind a child safety gate. Was a bit weary about stroking him,as most of you know these dogs are massive, and look very intimidating, but the chap said go on and stroke him, he is as soft as a bottle of pop,and thought yeah till hes riled up the wrong way, still on my guard though.
