Depends how old the car was. Originally digital was standard & analogue was optional. They later turned it around as digital wasn't that popular. 
Mine was a K plate, it was qwerky, i kinda liked it, the fuel gauge needed to be more accurate though, it needed to be like the rev style, rather than just showing gallons.
Seam to remember when switched to kph it showed litres left, rather than gallons
If K plate, it was an option by then ... like mine was. Galls did change to litres when in KPH, never had a problem with the gauge, how accurate is the needle on any other analogue gauge? You always had the miles to go on the trip computer as a back up.
Cold mornings was the issue, i would start it, say there was 2 gallons in it, get to the end of the road and it would start flashing "- -"

Would have loved that 24v engine in my facelift, even with DTM's views

Silky smooth, very economical

- Great S6 noise, one i had stood still for 2 years, 2 oil changes later, and the oil stayed super clean for 4k
