I am still surprised that the government failed to foresee what the "unintended" consequences of using ANPR to fine people for stopping for 20 seconds while they drop a passenger off were going to be  ::)

The minute you start issuing £60 FPN's along with 3 points to LICENSED taxi drivers when they stop to drop off a fare at 2:30am (yes, Camden Council actually did that), it surely doesn't take a degree in rocket science to work out what follows.

Of course this wonderful government had a brainwave to eradicate the cloning problem, they restrict the sale of ROAD LEGAL plates to certain dealers and you have to prove who you are when buying.

Great idea.....once they stop you going to the likes of Blackbushe and buying a pair of plates for half the shop price and signing a receipt to say they are for show use only (which means no questions asked).

ANPR is used everywhere these days, going for the ferry last year, they just confirmed our names when i put the window down, then flagged us through. No passports, no showing our booking, just straight on!
I doubt for one minute that the car being registered to one of the people named on the passenger list was responsible for no checks taking place when leaving the UK, more like they were running late and just wanted to get you on board.

Like yourself we have no problem departing the UK (even in vehicles that are not registered to anybody travelling), but we get the full treatment when we come back....EVERY f**king time.

Nope, was about 1 hour early, done about 4 recent trips on tunnel & ferry, departing the UK only once was our passports checked  :o

Got 1 treatment for the full search, but as soon as i popped the boot (it was totally rammed with camping and snowboards) I looked at the inspector and said, if you take that stuff out, YOU, and only YOU are putting that back in. And if i miss my crossing, i want compensation.

The boot was open for about 25 seconds, nothing removed, it was shut and i was on my way again  :)

Exactly K, the nett result of much of this present government's ill-thought out and inappropriately applied legislation.

Why show any degree of sophistication when dealing with these matters when one can use the brute force of disinterested oppression instead - what? :y :y

Maybe this is a case in point for having a private plate. I know & accept folk have mixed feelings ...waste of money...only for egotists...& all the rest, you are probably right as well but if you wanted to clone/ring/use an anti suss plate for a job would you steal S592 UAB (Beastie's original reg.) or L9 MUF?(£160)
That's not why i bought the plate but given this post which would stand out more if you wanted to misbehave? ::)

I don't think the people that clone them guy really give a toss guy. i was in a sign written hire van, went dow to romford once and within two weeks i'd allegedly been parking on double yellows, running red lights etc etc.

When the tickets finally got to my office (accounts very nearly just paid them :( ) it was only when i looked at the pictures and spotted no livery on the van that i questioned it.

Hire company said happens all the time they just pick a similar coloured car and model and rob whoevers plates they come accross >:(

Can't you get those numberplates that fall apart when you try and rip them off a car?
